SEMINAR: Quantum of Action and Perception of Nature

Abstract:

Beginning from early time of the humanity, the inquiry to understand nature, which encircling them everytime, was an important subject occupying their minds. Beginning with the historic studies of Galileo and described in a mathematical frame by Newton, the classical physics served to answer many questions about our macroscopic world  untill 19th century. However, for observations on some phenomena, it was not capable to give any satisfactory answers. With that reason, after his work on blackbody radiation, Planck had discovered an outstandingly important conclusion which turned out to be the first starting point for quantum description of nature: Quantum of Action!  Our fundamental understanding and hence, our perception of nature has gained a sound basis with this dicoverey.

Short Bio:

Professor Abukay specialized in low and high temperature superconductivity and superconducting thin film technology and devices. He is retired from Izmir Institute of Technology (İYTE) and at present he continues as an emeritus professor in an advisory status in Physics Department of İYTE. He also currently gives physics course to the freshmen as part time instructure  at Yaşar University.
